OXFORD

MIDDLE HOUSING

A Prototype for Middle Housing in Berkeley

Oxford Middle Housing is a prototype for innovative urban infill — a 24-unit modular development that expands student housing options just one block from UC Berkeley. Designed as a model for “middle housing” city-wide, the project demonstrates how density bonuses and state pro-housing tools (SB330) can unlock compact, sustainable, and livable communities.

The building is all-electric and powered by 100% renewable energy, meeting UC Berkeley’s stringent sustainability standards. Student-focused amenities include a concierge package room, study lounge, bike storage, roof deck with BBQ, and secure personal storage.

Units: 24 units
Client: Collabhome.io
Architect: Yes Community Architects
Modular Fabricator: Plant Prefab

Delivered through Collabhome.io and fabricated off-site by Plant Prefab, the project’s modular design enabled rapid delivery on a tight schedule. With no parking on a midblock lot, the development proves how contextual, efficient design can transform overlooked sites into resilient housing solutions.
