DURANT HOMES
Homes rooted in mission and belonging
Yes Community Architects is collaborating with David Baker Architects on the design of a new 100% affordable housing development at 2330 Durant Avenue in downtown Berkeley. The project is sponsored by East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC), in partnership with the First Congregational Church of Berkeley, which is leasing a portion of its property to support much-needed housing in the Southside neighborhood.
The proposed six-story building will provide 68 affordable homes for families, youth, and individuals—including units targeted for extremely low-income and formerly unhoused residents—along with staff offices, community rooms, and a small commercial suite. Designed as a Type III over Type I podium building, the project advances Berkeley’s goals for equitable growth while meeting CalGreen and local sustainability standards.
YCA’s role includes entitlement strategy, zoning and density bonus analysis, and community-focused design input, ensuring the project maximizes housing opportunity on this urban infill site. DBA serves as lead architect, with YCA contributing design and regulatory expertise, leveraging our experience in state density bonus law and collaborative development processes to help EBALDC and First Church realize a sustainable community asset.
